Professor Mark Edwards

Professor Mark Edwards graduated from Corpus Christi College, Oxford in 1984 with a BA in Literae Humaniores, and completed his doctorate on “Plotinus and the Gnostics” at the same college in 1988. From 1988-1989 he was Hasker Senior Scholar at Exeter College, Oxford, and also Lecturer in Classics at Balliol College, Oxford. From 1989-1992 he held the Esmee Fairbairn Junior Research Fellowship at New College, Oxford, and completed a BA in Theology as a member of that college in 1990. From 1992 to 1993 he remained at New College as a British Academy Post-Doctoral Fellow.

In 1993 he was elected as the Official Student (i.e. Tutorial Fellow) in Theology at Christ Church, Oxford, and University Lecturer in Patristics in the Faculty of Theology at the University of Oxford. His University title is now Associate Professor in Patristics in the Faculty of Theology and Religion; since 2014 he has also held a personal chair as Professor of Early Christian Studies. Professor Edwards is currently Chair of the Theology and Religion Faculty Board.
