Ms Christine Rosa de Freitas

BA, MA, MPhil

Christine Rosa de Freitas is a first-year DPhil student at St. Cross College under the supervision of Professor Hindy Najman. She has recently completed an MPhil in Theology at Oriel College, having previously completed an MA in Bible and the Ancient Near East at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a BA in Biblical and Theological Studies from Nyack College, USA.

Christine’s Master’s thesis explored how concepts of perfection in the Torah shape perspectives of the “Self” in the Bible and other Second Temple Jewish texts. Her DPhil project takes the topic further by exploring the role of imperfection, sacrifice, and mystery in the self’s engagement with the divine. She was awarded the 2023 Hall-Houghton Septuagint Prize for outstanding work on the Septuagint for her first-year MPhil examinations.
