Christian Maloney is a first-year MPhil student under the supervision of Professor Hindy Najman. He hopes to incorporate the contributions of literary criticism into the study of compositional technique and redactional artistry in the Pentateuch and Deuteronomistic History, explore the ways in which the extra-biblical literature of the Second Commonwealth interpreted authoritative texts, and delve deeply into the theological role of the Messenger of the Lord across the biblical corpus.
Christian’s interest in the Bible began during his undergraduate years at Williams College, from which he graduated in 2021 with a degree in Classics and Political Science. He was a Class of 1960 Scholar and received the George E. Durell Scholarship, NESCAC All-Academic Honors, and the Kleinhandler Commencement Prize for Excellence in Music. Christian was a member of Men’s Cross-Country and played violin in the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra. He continued his studies at Harvard Divinity School as a Reverend Betsee Parker Fellow, graduating in 2024 with a Master of Theological Studies. At Harvard, Christian collaborated with string musicians from New England Conservatory in the Lowell House Opera Orchestra.
