BA
Ella Vardi is a first-year MPhil student in Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford, based at Campion Hall under the supervision of Professor Hindy Najman. She is also the recipient of the Laudato Si’ Research Institute Studentship in Ecotheology.
Ella completed her BA in Theology, Religion, and Philosophy of Religion at Homerton College, University of Cambridge, in 2025. Her academic work there was recognised with the Junior Scholefield Prize for distinction in Biblical Studies, as well as a Religion and Gender Prize for her undergraduate dissertation, which explored the reproductive role of women in the book of Genesis.
She hopes to focus her MPhil research on the representation of womanhood and femininity in the Hebrew Bible. She is also interested in the role of performance in textual transmission, themes of mortality and immortality in the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the metaphors through which the divine is portrayed in biblical poetry.
