Wenyue Qiang is a DPhil student at St Cross College under the supervision of Professor Hindy Najman. Prior to this, Wenyue completed her BA in Modern Hebrew and MPhil in Religious studies at Peking University, China. Wenyue also received an MA in Jewish studies at UCL in 2019 and an MSt in Classical Hebrew studies at Oxford in 2020.
Wenyue’s research interests include textual criticism of the Hebrew bible, legal hermeneutics in the Dead Sea scrolls, Jewish biblical interpretation in rabbinic literature, and medieval Hebrew grammatical thought. For DPhil studies, Wenyue is focusing on the legal compositions in the Second Temple period, especially on the genre of “rewritten law” in the Dead Sea scrolls and legal exegesis in various textual traditions, such as the Septuagint Pentateuch and the Targum.
